Post-Impressionism
Post Impressionism was an art movement that was formed by the French between 1886 to 1905. Post Impressionism was a reaction to Impressionism but had a lot of common characteristics. Post Impressionism rejects the idea of emphasizing the realistic natural vibrant light. Post-Impressionism shared similar traits with Impressionism by the fact of them both focusing on capturing the realistic image. Post Impressionist artists would rely more on their memory and emotion. Artists would use their own emotions in order to create masterpieces. Post Impressionism art relied more on how the colors merged and shape to represent the surroundings. Unlike Impressionism the use of sunlight and painting outside to capture the true form of how the image looks at the time. Post Impressionism pays more attention to the detail of the application of paint the canvas, making sure form and patterns are on point. There were two general types of Post Impressionism art trends which were structure/ geometric and nongeometric/ expressive. Some of the most well known Post Impressionist artists were Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat, and Giorgio Morandi. Post Impressionism was a beloved art movement that will create some of the most well-known artists still praised today.
