Quattrocento
A dark time for European culture during the medieval ages was about to end when, what some would call, a rebirth of classical arts and ideas flourished throughout Europe. Following the revival of these classical values in art were newer concepts within life itself. Such concepts led to questions that have never been asked before and then to ideas that have never even been thought of before among the people of Europe. From the birth of philosophical ideas like Humanism that focused on the raw scientific truth of something rather than accepting its superstition claim to the restoration of Greco-Roman classical art and literature that artisans loved, and their patrons craved. This movement would be known as the Renaissance. The Renaissance would first be spotted in Italy from the workings of Petrarch, the Godfather of Humanism, and would soon initiate the 14th-century Italian Renaissance. The Italian Renaissance would give the world some of the most amazing pieces of art while making its artists worldwide famous. The Renaissance would soon start to spread beyond Italy and into Northern Europe, procreating the Northern Renaissance and introducing even more new forms of painting as well as new values in life. The Renaissance began to change the social and economic structure of Europe by giving artisans a higher rank in the social class, and by having a country’s wealth like Italy solely dependent on patronage of art. Whether it be the fascinating yet simple feature of bending the leg in a sculpture known as contrappasto to the Northern Renaissance unique flemish painting style, it is no doubt that this movement changed Europe in many amazing but also negative ways.
